Emprex PC-380 webcam problem on Microsoft Windows Vista

This blog post is about Emprex PC-380 drivers for Windows Vista.

I hadn’t used my Emprex PC-380 webcam in a while, and decided I wanted to install it on Microsoft Windows Vista, but I soon ran into a problem. The driver appeared to install okay, but the capture image was actually blank! So alas it wasn’t working. It should also be noted the driver I was using actually calls the webcam a CamMastro 4.7EU build 21.

I decided to try another driver, and discovered the Emprex PC-380 is also the Sonix SN9C102 single-chip PC camera. I downloaded their Windows 98/ME/2000/XP drivers, and once installed, it worked! As you will notice from the screenshots, the newer driver is two years older.

This webcam I specifically brought back in my days of using Linux on a laptop, but now I’m primarily using Microsoft Windows. Webcam technology has moved on since this webcam was created, and I must admit I am tempted to buy a new webcam. However I don’t feel I can justify that purchase currently, as I rarely use a webcam.

Anyhow I created this blog post, to hopefully help someone else who had run into a problem with the webcam, and to let them know other drivers do exist. To download their drivers, just click on the link in the second paragraph.
