RTS Space Game: Star Trek Armada 1

I love the Star Trek Armada game. Firstly because it is a RTS (real time strategy), and secondly because it is a great Star Trek game.Star Trek Armada 1 Screenshot

I’ve owned this game since its release, but at the time of writing (2012), this game is now a classic. I don’t care, as I still enjoy occasionally playing the game.

As time goes by, I might update the FAQ below:

Q. How can I get Star Trek Armada to run on Microsoft Windows Vista?

A. When I recently reinstalled the game, I found only the video intro would work, but when I wanted to click on any of the menu options, I could still hear the sound, but the visuals had disappeared.

Firstly I installed the 1.2 patch and secondly I changed the compatibility options. Below is a screenshot of the settings.

To set the settings above, you do the following:

  1. Visit the following directory path using Windows Explorer: \program files\activision\star trek – armada\
  2. Right click on the ‘Armada’ application.
  3. Select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and then you can use the settings above to help you configure your game.

Q. How can I stop the mouse being jumpy in Star Trek Armada?

A. All you have to do is enter the game settings and increase the scroll speed of the mouse. That solved the problem for me.

Q. How can I run Star Trek Armada on a widescreen laptop or monitor?

A. There was an unofficial patch created, that means you can change the graphics settings to allow Armada to run in widescreen. Also the patch clears up some Microsoft Windows 7 issues and a 2GB ram issue, stopping the game from running. I found the 1.3 patch here, but obviously you download and install at your own risk.
